You guys may not be familiar with Esperanza Spalding….yet. The songstress recently shocked audiences when she won the 2011 Grammy’s Best New Artist beating out Drake and Justin Beiber.  Her natural hair caused quite a stir and requests for the "Esperanza Grammy Hair" ensued. Fox News recently did a story on how African American Women’s permanent hair loss seemed to be tied to braiding and weaving as suggested by a study in the Archives of Dermatology.  The hair thinning is caused by a condition called centrifugal cicatricial alopecia also know as scarring hair loss. About one in six women of the 326 surveyed had scarring hair loss and over half said that they frequently wear weaves and braids. Angela Keyi, who led the study, also wanted to point out that scarring alopocecia could also be a result of type two diabetes which dramatically affects African American women. Highly popular product line Carol’s Daughter recently unveiled a new product line and new spokesmodels for the brand. The new Monoi line, which launched in stores May 9th, has products containing Tahitian Monoi Oil which promises to undo and prevent damage for "fewer breaks, snaps, and splits".

Another big introduction from the hair and body care company comes from the selection of its new spokesmodels: R&B singer/model Cassie, eclectic songbird Solange Knowles, and Victoria’s Secret model Selita Ebanks.
