Set wet curls or kinks using thumb-sized “two strand twists” to create this full wavy mane. Use a firm hold styling cream such as Miss Jessie’s Curly Pudding for kinky, porous textures or use styling gels such as Curls Goddess Glaze or Hair Rules Curly Whip for loose curls.
Let the twists dry completely under a hooded dryer or air dry overnight. Make sure twists are completely dry and begin pulling them apart.
Pull twists apart beginning at the root and let the ends naturally come apart or use a light tug to separate the ends. To avoid frizz, apply a light styling wax to fingertips before separating twists, such as Simply Organic Control Wax. Be gentle…you don’t want the ends to be frizzy.
Once twists are pulled apart you can create more volume by pulling each half apart a second time. This will create more volume and fullness - but beware, this can also lead to frizz much more quickly!
Use a pick to lift hair at the roots (especially in the crown area). Lift the hair and pull forward to create the lion mane look you see here.
Keep this look fresh by re-twisting at night and using a light-weight moisturizer such as Hair Rules Hydrating Finishing Cream.
Note: Problems with length or shrinkage? Achieve this look with a two-strand twist blow-out!
For a smooth blow out, and to reduce frizz, apply Phyto Defrisant Balm to wet or damp curls to keep your hair healthy and protect your natural texture.
Blow out the hair from the root (avoiding the ends to prevent damage). Be sure to keep your blow dryer on a moderately low setting.
Apply a light cream hair dress such as Curls Soufflé or Curls Whipped Cream to your entire head before setting the hair with thumb-sized twists (use about a palm full throughout your entire head). Add a dime size amount of high shine moisture to each twist such as Jane Carter Solution Twist and Lock or Phyto 9.
Allow the look to set under a hooded dryer for 20 minutes or air dry overnight. Take apart as instructed above. Happy styling!
