A Change of Thought on getting the most from your hair care products…

Ok girls, it’s time to change the way we think about conditioning curls, kinks and waves and here at Urbanbella we make it our business to make sure that you know how to care for your curly hair, kinky hair and wavy hair.  The first thing that we want you to know is that these hair textures love conditioner.  It provides nice moisture without being greasy and finding the right one for your hair type and your hair needs (which can change from day to day) is very important.

What’s right for me?

Choosing the right conditioner for you hair is very important.  Drier curls need more moisture and this is typical of curly, kinky and wavy hair textures.  Look for conditioners that are designed for a course hair texture and provided maximum moisture.  Conditioners that enhance curl texture and detangle are extremely beneficial for course to medium textured curls and kinks.  For best result, try favorites such as Curls Coconut Sublime Conditioner and Curly Q’s Coconut Dream Conditioner.  For fine to medium textured hair the DevaCurl One Condition and DevaCare One Condition provide excellent moisture while not weighing the hair down. The Jane Carter Solution Nutrient Replenishing Conditioner is excellent for all hair types and replenishes much-needed nutrients that are stripped away by sweat, water and shampoo.  A great conditioner will enhance your curls…not make them limp, flat or frizzy!  A deep treatment mask is a must do for Curls!   Curls Asian Hair Tea restores the moisture to curls and should be used under a hood dry once a month for 20-30 minutes.  The result? Unbelievable softness and moisture!

Here are five tips on how to get the best results for conditioning curly hair, kinky hair and wavy hair…

Tip No 1: Conditioner should be applied before washing curly hair to pre-treat the hair and provide moisturizing protection.  Apply a quarter size amount to protect your curls from the harmful effects of lather in your shampoo.  Note: If you are using a Conditioning Cleanser or No Lather shampoo such as DevaCurl No Poo, DevaCare No Poo and Curls Curlicious Cleansing Cream you will not need to pre-treat with conditioner.

Tip No 2: Take time to really notice your curls while conditioning. Conditioner is an opportunity for you to really get to know your hair at its’ best with no tangles, frizz or fly-aways and it moves smoothly and freely. Conditioning your beautiful curls is the most euphoric experience you can have with your beautiful curly, kinky hair and wavy locks. With your conditioner applied really get a feel for how your hair curls and bends.   Observe these curls…they are the one’s you want when your hair is dry.

Tip No 3:  Detangle your tresses while your conditioner is in with a wide tooth comb.  Conditioner makes your hair pliable, easy to detangle and will eliminate snapping and breaking damage that can be caused while combing.  For best results use a conditioner that has been formulated for curly hair such as Jane Carter Solution Nutrient Replenishing Conditioner  or Curls Coconut Sublime Conditioner – Moisture to the Max.

Tip No 4While your conditioner is in begin your styling process.  Place your hair in the direction you want it to be in after you have completed your styling process.   Reason why?  It’s easier to set your part and shift the weight of your hair while your conditioner is in and your hair is the most flexible.

After rinsing your conditioner, while your hair is dripping wet, apply your favorite styling pomade, gel or leave-in conditioner.

Tip No 5: Use a leave-in conditioner or moisturizer (applied to your wet hair) to maintain that slippery feeling while you are styling your hair. Conditioner for the hair is like using lotion for the skin.  You wouldn’t take a bath without applying lotion right?  Well then…you should always apply conditioner after any water is used on your hair. For excellent results for medium and course hair textures try Curls Milkshake, Curls Quenched Curls Moisturizer or Jane Carter Solution Revitalizing Leave-In Conditioner.   For fine and medium textured hair DevaCurl B’Leave-in leaves hair in the perfect condition and silky without weighing your curl down.  This is especially important with finer textures of wavy hair. Apply a quarter size amount of your favorite product over your entire head to help lock in moisture.
